Verul *
Among these caves, the Kailasa
Temple Caves is an awe-inspiring sculpture carved out of a solid rock. 29 m.
The Kailash Caves measure 50 m long and 33 m wide in height. As the abode of
Lord Shiva, this cave is called Kailas cave. It is safe to say that thousands
of years ago, unknown artists with chisels and hammers in their hands created
this sculpture and kept the flag of Hindu culture flying all over the world.
What is the main name of Verul
cave?
The mountain in which this cave is formed is called Ellur mountain. The
place got its name Ellur from the Elu mountain and Elganga, near which the
river Elganga flows, but with time the name Ellur got corrupted.
Kailas temple of Verul built?
The entrance to the Kailas Caves is beautifully sculptured on either
side and has a mythological background with the gatekeepers Shankanidhi and
Padmanidhi drawing attention. Also, the giant elephants and tall flagpoles add
to the beauty of the sculptures. The Kailasa Caves, formed from a single
outcrop, were created in the second half of the 8th century AD under the
encouragement of King Krishnaraja. Kailas Caves were initially known as
Manikeshwar. According to historians and experts, after preparing the planned
excavation plan, the sculptors selected a large rock of comfort and separated
it from the mountain, then the excavation was started from the top. Also,
according to the prevailing method of that time, this cave is not a temple
construction, but a sculpture created by sculpture.
Sculptors have put their skills to the test in emphasizing the mythological
context of the 16 Hindu caves here. Creating large and beautiful caves with
creativity and imagination after working for more than a century is really a
wonderful form of Vastu Shastra. Along with Durgamurti, Gajalakshmi, Gajraj Yo
who performs Jalabhishek, the natural creation of leaves and flowers all seem
lively and very eloquent.
